It was the last morning that the view from Zabriski Point overlook in Death Valley National Park would be open to visitors.  The paved walkway is now closed for stabilization work through April.

Zabriski Point before sunrise

About two dozen folks drove up before dawn to see the sunrise paint the fantastically sculpted hills.

It was an uncertain sunrise, with clouds clustered in the east.  But patience paid off.

You can still hike the trail for similar views, but the easily walkable viewpoint is off limits until spring.  Glad I was able to experience Zabriski Point’s “last day.”
