This is actually a pretty big rock. You have to view it from above to see it’s a heart. The bottom of the heart is about head-high when you’re next to it.

It’s easy to get to, but there’s no sign, and it requires a little bit of rock scrambling. But the grip on your shoes is good.

Big clumps of these light purple asters popped up here and there.

In many ways the flora here reminds me of Okefenokee. The bladderwort is a carnivorous plant, with the tiny underwater air-filled bladders triggered by a microscopic pond denizen to open the trap door and suck it in, where it is digested.

I did just that yesterday. Went to my pool aquatics and had a little speech ready if anybody started gloating about the Con Man they elected. But thankfully nobody did. Then walked 3 hours in a small woodland on post – saw white pelicans and sandhill cranes migrating high in the sky, and photographed a male ruby-crowned kinglet with his big old ruby crown visible! Watched the sunset and came home and chatted 90 minutes with my progressive friend from Maine. Shock and sadness is transforming itself into St. Joan of Arc.Not gonna lay down quietly under the Steamroller-in-Chief.
