Wildflowers are Starting!

The first blush of wildflowers in Central Coast California

There is talk of another “super bloom” in California. I missed the one two years ago because I was living in Oklahoma at the time.

But we’ve been blessed with quite a bit of rain the last two months, and it’s looking good for a repeat performance.

I went to Carrizo Plain looking for some color. While there were no flowers in the monument itself, the Temblor Range at the intersection of State Hwy 58 and Seven Mile Road had a terrific splash of color.

The yellow flowers are the hillside daisy, and the purple are phacelia.

There was no other sign of wildflower color yet headed west on Hwy 58, but give it another week or two.

I’ve been at Carrizo Plain when the fields were ablaze with purple phacelia. The rangers told me there should be a peak bloom around mid-March.

I can’t wait!
