Birds Birds Birds

Morro Bay State Park boardwalk

It was Christmas Bird Count Day for the Morro Coast Audubon Society Dec. 19, and I had an easy but somewhat uninspired plot assigned to me at Cuesta College, so it didn’t take me long to finish. I ended the day at Morro Bay State Park looking for the no-show zone-tailed hawk (moved on, I fear). It was a much birdier spot.

Despite it being a lovely warm day, it wasn’t crowded at all. Not everyone wore masks, however, despite the mandate. Either they think the virus won’t transmit outdoors, or they’re making a wackadoodle political statement, I dunno.

The above birds were at Cuesta College. More from Morro Bay:

Hollister Peak is seen from the boardwalk in late afternoon. I watched the sunset from Estero Bluffs on the way home so I could find Jupiter and Saturn. They were easy to find. Saturn is on top and flat because of the rings. Two days before the official conjunction on Dec. 21.

Happy holidays y’all!
